Signatories
The declaration and agreement were signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Rwanda, Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov.
The signing location and main purpose
The two leaders met at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Turkey, where they launched this new trip. It aims to strengthen cooperation in diplomacy, trade, investment and education between the two countries.
What it means for Uzbekistan
Rwanda has become the 167th country with which Uzbekistan has officially established diplomatic relations. This marks a significant step that Uzbekistan has taken in further expanding its relations with African countries. The signed agreement is expected to further expand political dialogue between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries and the two governments in general.
What does it mean for Rwanda?
This step is in line with Rwanda's plan to further expand diplomatic relations and cooperation with various countries. In less than a year, Rwanda has already established diplomatic relations with Denmark, signed a peace cooperation agreement with Ukraine, further expanded cooperation with India, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, and has now reached Tashkent, Uzbekistan, located in Central Asia.
Uzbekistan's mission in Africa
For Uzbekistan, establishing relations with Rwanda is another step after the country established relations with Burundi in September 2024. The government of Uzbekistan affirms that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is committed to further strengthening relations with countries on the African continent, a step that will continue to be taken gradually.
